About 25 people, mostly young entrepreneurs, researchers, and students from different parts of Cameroon, participated in the National Meeting of EoC Entrepreneurs held last weekend. The positive attitude of the participants towards learning and sharing experiences characterized the entire event.
During the two days of the meeting, participants expressed their desire to welcome new entrepreneurs, to learn, to share and to “enlighten each other” with their colorful experiences for a more sustainable and inclusive world. They learned from each other through stimulating interactions and a rich program, sharing experiences in an atmosphere of mutual exchange that allowed for in-depth learning.
Participants had the opportunity to discover the fundamental values and what has been done so far, listening to the strengths and weaknesses of young entrepreneurs in the field. They also learned that applying the principles and values of the Economy of Communion allows for the optimization of resources and promotes change towards an inclusive economy. This change requires a new approach to economic activity and personal relationships, emphasizing unity, sharing, and the well-being of all, rather than the mere pursuit of profit.
An article by Prof. Luigino Bruni on the prospects of the Economy of Communion was presented in a video: Six specific points highlighted how, in order to have a society without poverty or need, entrepreneurs must be involved in economic activities that promote communion, gratuitousness, reciprocity, and shared responsibility, without forgetting the need to make a profit and have good managerial skills. By implementing the guidelines for running an Economy of Communion business in the right way, it is possible to prosper like any other business.
Among the young entrepreneurs who shared their experiences was Bisih Christiane, founder of LUNAS, a food brand based in Douala that produces nutritious, affordable, and accessible foods, such as protein drinks and powdered porridge. Her products are completely organic, produced and packaged hygienically to meet the needs of various target groups, mainly young children, school-age children, convalescents, busy business professionals, and wellness and fitness enthusiasts.
Dr. Anyizi Bertha Nkemnyi, owner of the Mountain Veterinary Clinic (MVC), is a registered veterinarian with the National Veterinary Council of Cameroon, based in the city of Buea. In addition to providing veterinary care, advice, and treatment, her company also sells equipment and accessories for animals. The company currently has three permanent employees and interns.
The GIC ANIMAL KINGDOM (Animal Kingdom Common Initiative Group), created in 2020 by Dr. Wamba Gery and Mrs. Djikep Briyelle Epse Wamba, although still in its infancy, is one of the young companies that has embraced the business management guidelines of the Economy of Communion. The clinic is located in Yaoundé, Cameroon, and ensures the health and well-being of animals.
Among the entrepreneurs, participants also learned a lot from Nature's Gift, a company founded in 2015 by Asong Fabian, specializing in the production and sale of soaps and other medicinal plant derivatives.
The presence of social entrepreneur Mkemcha Martin Tiku helped bring out the wonderful love of the invisible partner in all the activities of the Economy of Communion in Cameroon.
Participants also had the opportunity to learn more about the academic world of the EoC thanks to an article by Dr. Tonye Alain entitled “The works of St. Francis of Assisi and their way of operating: a soul for the African economy?” and thanks to Maxim Lontio's master's thesis on the Economy of Communion. Learning from young entrepreneurs in the field gave hope and strengthened their burning desires, showing how the EoC can be lived in companies.
The meeting was also an opportunity to join other EoC members from around the world for the Global Gathering on May 24, which had as its theme: “Roots of the Future - Pathways for a Possible Economy.”
