#OPLAStories - The story of Águeda, a young Mexican writer who is already living for a new economy
by Tainã Santana
We are in Mexico, where Águeda, a young writer of only 10 years old, writes to us. She has received support from the Economy of Communion to continue her studies. Let's hear from her:
"Hi, I want to tell you my story. Thanks to the support of the EoC, I have been able to continue my basic studies with peace of mind, and I am really happy about that. I love studying and helping my classmates learn with me. Some time ago, I was sick with dengue fever for a few weeks. But my classmates never forgot me: they sent me lots of messages and the notes that the teacher gave in class, so I didn't fall behind with my homework. Thanks to God and my mother's loving care, I recovered and returned to my studies with enthusiasm. At the end of the 2024-2025 school year, I received an honorary diploma for my good grades, an achievement that made my whole family happy. »

Águeda is now in the fifth grade of elementary school and, day after day, continues to grow and improve thanks to the support of the EoC. With this help, the family has been able to cover the costs of books, school supplies, and monthly tuition, allowing her to study with peace of mind. After her parents separated due to mental health issues, her mother found herself having to face everything alone, including the difficult situation with the house, which is now involved in legal proceedings. Despite the difficulties, the support received has brought a breath of relief: it has allowed Águeda to devote herself to her studies and has given her mother some peace of mind and hope. Águeda says:
I really enjoy reading books on culture, history, and values. I love writing stories and have already published two! My dream is to continue studying to become a better person and be able to help those in need. I hope to finish elementary school with the same enthusiasm and commitment. I want to share with you two experiences that touched my heart.

"During a craft lesson where we had to make a jumping frog, I chose a beautiful green sheet of paper. One of my classmates also wanted that color, but there were no more green sheets, so he chose blue. I felt inside me that I had to do something, even though at first I didn't have the courage. Then I decided to make a gesture of love and gave him my green sheet, taking another one. I felt so happy for having done that that shortly afterwards another classmate gave me a green frog in the color I liked. Then, there is a girl with ADHD in my class. When we go out for recess, we play together, and I noticed that she brings very little lunch with her. So I decided to share with her what my mom makes for me. Seeing her happy makes me happy too."
The formation of new women and men, as we see, starts from the very basics, and it gives so much hope to see the fruits that the EoC life produces around the world. Águeda, for example, already lives for a new economy, which finds more meaning in giving things away than in keeping them for herself. These are small (but powerful) seeds of an economy that knows it cannot feel right until everyone has found their dignity. They are certainly the result of the education she received at home, at school, and from the people around her. Thank you, Águeda, for being receptive to these teachings and for giving us hope once again for a better tomorrow.
Do you also want to be a builder of a new economy, the seeds of which can already be seen in the youngest among us? Or are you already one? Or do you have others around you who, like Águeda, could start living for this economy and just need some support? Write to us at This email address is being protected from spambots.
