"In Japan, when a precious vase is broken, the fragments are collected and reassembled without hiding the fracture. What's more, it is embellished by inserting a golden thread into it that makes the love of those who have rebuilt it visible." It was Maria Voce, president of the Focolare Movement, who drew this eastern metaphor in the moments of intense communion lived at the Polo Spartacus this past April. It is an eloquent image of the dynamics of the experience underlying the life of this first entrepreneurial EoC Pole in the world of which Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare herself dreamed to become the first seed of a new economy.

Maria Voce returned to visit the Polo Spartacus after 13 years, Giancarlo Faletti N39 pag 07 Polo Spartaco insegne ridwas there for the first time. It was one of the stops on their long journey in Brazil undertaken in late March. Armando Tortelli, one of the pioneers, recalled the suffering and difficulties overcome together, as well as the doubts and questions arising during the 20 years that are all at the root of many fruits. He talked of the thousands of people who have visited the Pole and found that hope giving "seed" here. Maria Voce and Giancarlo Faletti, having visited the warehouses of the various undertakings one by one, expressed their amazement. Their words spoke of their deep feelings and gratitude. Faletti compared the Polo to "a ship that has taken off faithful to the words of Chiara and is crossing the sea, without fear of the inevitable storms." Both difficulty and work have the stamp of sacredness and they help define the Pole as a "secular shrine," "a place of testimony for all the people who have taken up this EoC adventure all over the world and who know your experiences and your faithfulness."

For Maria Voce "the Pole is a miracle built day after day, together, by all of you,” she said, “by you who were ready to venture into something mysterious, but believed it to be God's plan."

Maria Voce answered without hesitation, "The strength of the Pole is in the communion, and not in the economy. It grows only if communion grows – inside the Pole, with the other poles in the world, with the other powers of the Focolare Movement, the Church and
society that are working in this direction." "The Golden Thread," she argued, "is the communion that allows God to be with us. And He is", she said, "the first author of the miracle who makes it possible to overcome the difficulties, shows the steps to take, evokes witness that, like a stone thrown into a pond, spreads in concentric circles reaching to the whole world that needs a new vision of the economy."
