We join the voices of citizens, institutions, civil and religious leaders who are calling for an end to this absurd war, and to all wars, for the release of hostages and, above all, for respect for the most fundamental human rights and dignity of defenceless civilians, reduced to starvation by restrictions on access to humanitarian aid, as well as the systematic destruction of hospitals, schools and refugee camps themselves. In concrete terms, AMU and AFN want to continue supporting the assistance projects of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, which welcomes hundreds of displaced persons into its facilities in Gaza, providing them with food, medicine, and everything they need to live.

It is time to put an end to this absurdity, to end the war, and to put the common good of the people first.

On Friday, July 18, 2025, following a delegation from the Latin Patriarchate and the Orthodox Church, 500 tons of food and medicine, Emergenza Terra Santa 400 rid also supported by AMU contributions, were able to arrive in Gaza. Many other trucks with humanitarian aid are waiting to reach their destination, overcoming checkpoints and attacks by predators.

During his visit, Greek Orthodox Patriarch Theophilos III expressed deep sorrow for what he saw in Gaza: “Among the destroyed walls of the Church of the Holy Family, we witnessed both profound sorrow and unshakeable hope.” He called on the international community to break its silence, stating that “silence in the face of suffering is a betrayal of conscience.”

With him was the Latin Patriarch, Cardinal Pizzaballa, who described the scene as devastating but full of wonderful humanity: "We returned from Gaza with broken hearts, but also encouraged by the testimony of many people we met. We walked through the dust of the ruins, among collapsed buildings and tents everywhere [...] Yet, in the midst of all this, we encountered something deeper than destruction: the dignity of the human spirit that refuses to be extinguished. Mothers preparing food for others, nurses treating wounds with kindness, and people of all faiths continuing to pray to the God who sees and never forgets."
