Opening oneself to the new prospectives that emerge in work, take on the social problems of our society. This is one fo the many requests made in Benedict XVI´s social encyclical. This meeting, however, has a precise audience in mind: organized union workers. For the Pope, the action of safeguarding and representing the world of work in this time of globalization, what should be put back into evidence are the authentic etical and cultural reasons which allowed unions, in various social contexts and fields, to be a deciding factor in development.

The reflections of Caritas in Veritate as a whole offer to many the aspects of an innovation vision of capitalism, the enterprise, economic processes and work. It also appeals to unusual concepts for these spheres, such as the principle of gratuitousness in the market and the value of gift in economy, all the while looking through a prospective which places caritas at the foundation of social, economic and political life.
