A School of Communion

Dear friends, if I have to sum up the meaning of these days spent in Rocca di Papa, from September 3-6, I would say that, for me, more than a "school of the economy of communion", it was a "school of communion". In fact, I liked that every lesson always ended with a moment of dialogue with the "students". It was constructive, and italways opened up new prospectives. Then, the chance to talk in small groups in the evening allowed us to share about what we had lived.

Right away, I was touched by the school´s international characteristic. We came from pretty much all over the world and were people of all types: students, entrepreneurs, professors, workers from all of Europe (Italy, France, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic to name a few) and from various other continents (Argentina, Brazil, the Philippines).

The World Council of Churches sent a message for the Summer School

Dr. Samuel Kobia, Secretary General of the General Council of the Churches of Geneva, sent us this message

Message to the participants of the EOC Summer School

a few excerpts

WCClogo_colour_ridTo the Seminar on Economy of Communion, Castelgandolfo, Rome, Italy

Dear friends, sisters and brothers in Christ,

The parable of the judgement of the nations in the Gospel of Mathews (25:31-46) makes it clear: What we have done to the least in the human family, we have done to Christ. Christ identifies with the poor and marginalized of this world. We find Christ among them. Social justice is a matter of faith and a Gospel imperative. Reading the recent papal encyclical Caritas in Veritate, I am grateful for the great consensus among major church traditions that we have to focus on the needs of the poor, the role of labour and the relationship with creation.

EOC Summer School: an assessment

At the end of four truly intense days of the first EOC Summer School, we attempt to describe the experience

EOC Summer School: an assessment

By Benedetto Gui

The proposal of a summer course on the Economy of Communion was launched thinking of a small group of young people, most likely scholars of various economic profession (students in doctorate programs, research fellowships, university professors at the beginning of their career). In this way, it would be possible to present and systematically discuss the theoretical reflections developed in these years around the economy of communion project.

Communion that bears immeasurable fruit

We asked a few young participants of the Summer School to tell us what it was for them

Communion that bears immeasurable fruit

We´re in the train that is taking us home, physically but not "spiritually" away from the first Summer School of the Economy of Communion, which took place in Rocca di Papa (Italy) from September 3-6, 2009.

After these four intense days of communion of scientific research, values, projects, ideas, thoughts, hopes, expectations...life...we thought to keep the experience going by continuing to live it on the train that is heading towards Padova. Sorry if we haven´t presented ourselves yet: we´re Antonella, Remigio and Marianna.

The EOC Summer School begins!

Written by Antonella Ferrucci Wednesday, 02 September 2009 10:27

The much awaited EOC Summer School will take place from September 3-6, in Rocca di Papa, Italy.

The EOC Summer School begins!

The first Summer School of the Economy of Communion begins the morning of September 3. It´s an appointment that has been strongly desired by many and prepared with care by the organizers. More than 90 will participate - not only from Italy and Europe (including a numerous group from Slovacchia!), as there will be a significant representation from Palestine, Argentina, Brazil and the Philippines.

The first morning begins with a group presentation on "The Cultural challenges of the EOC Today". The idea in the title of the school, "The Economy of Communion: Theory and Practice", will then be woven throughout the program through a series of reporting that intends to create "bridges" between "ideas" - theory - and the "facts" - the routine procedure in the life of the businesses. These practices will be spoken about at length on saturday, the 5th, through a series of reports with a management-organizational slant.

A large slot of time each day will be dedicated to group work related to the presentations. Then, the groups will also take the word, having a chance to gather the fruits of the "communion" built together through the work of the participants. Only then, after this mutual exchange, will it be possible Sunday morning to conclude the school with a sythesis that expresses the prophetic vision of the EOC today.

Italy - Rocca di Papa (Rome) 2-6 september 2009

18 year after the start of the Economy of Comunion

First Summerschool on Economy of Comunion

The Summerschool will be held the first week of settember (from Thursday morning 3 september until  Sundaymorning 6 september 2009) in Rocca di Papa, near Rome. The scope of the school is to reflect together about the theoretical ideas that have matured during the first 18 years of the project.

Invited to participate are those who reflected already with us on the EoC (the Subiaco-Palazolla group) and, above all, those who are finishing a thesis or doctorate or who are professors or researchers in economics. The field of study will essentially be economics, but this does not exclude the participation of scolars in other fields.

The lectures will be held by professors of different Italian universities who for many years are already involved in the project and reflected on it, like Benedetto Gui, Luigino Bruni, Vittorio Peligra, Maria Gabriela Balderelli, Alessandra Smerelli and others.
