Combining Gratuity and Efficiency: Restoring Human Health

Undergraduate degree in Economics and Health Services Management

Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, 27th November 2011, language: Italian, Advisor: Alessandra Smerilli

The aim of the thesis was to ask how to combine the stay in the market of companies that deal with health and making health care accessible to those who cannot afford it. In what way is it possible to combine efficiency and freely given services? Could the Economy of Communion be the answer to these questions by introducing a different logic in the market? Based on the analysis of three cases of companies that operate in the area of health care in different geographical locations, there emerges a common focus on bringing the person to the centre of health services. In professions that are "relation-sensitive" such as those in curing, that "something more" to which EoC businesses point given their deep intrinsic motivation can really make a difference.
