Microfinanza (Microfinance)
To give credit to relationships
Il Mulino Saggi, Bologna, 2009
With preface by Stefano Zamagni (in Italian)
Microfinance represents more of a cultural revolution than an economic one, and more anthropological than political. A supportive financial system for social and economic development is set at the base and acts on assumptions radically different in respect to the traditional ones, and insists on a process of involvement that starts from the bottom but is two-directional. Only in reciprocity, in fact, can a supportive relationship promote the blossoming of potential without humiliating the dignity of the beneficiary.
The cultural challenge of microcredit is bet on this point: on the capicty to look at the creditor as a potential partner, an ally, not as an unfortunate person to help or, in the worst case, an opportunist ready to take money and escape. It´s a challenge that - as the book illustrates in detail - embraces the prospective of freedom and recognizes credit and financial services as powerful multipliers of opportunity, instruments of social and economic inclusion, and promoters of interdependence and human capacities.| < Prev | Next > |
