Christian economic models

logo_resThe liberal economic system requires clear prevailing conditions based on ethical principles. Not only the recent economic crisis, but also a whole range of other long-term issues (particularly the ecology) demand a new orientation. Appropriate solutions for these issues can emerge from theoretical reflection on the one hand, but they can also follow certain concrete models which attempt to cope with the complexity of the human nature.

Do the Christian tradition and theology offer such models? And if they do, are those models suitable for smaller groups, or do they also provide with ideas and experiences which challenge and enrich the economic theory as a whole?

Deadline: 15th of may 2011

Gift: the Value of Links and Human Values. An Interdisciplinary Dialogue.

September 16-17, 2010
University of Studies, Macerata
Faculty of Letters and Philosophy
Department of Philosophy and Human Sciences

On September 18-19, 2008, at the University of Studies at Milano-Bicocca, the first convention on gift was held, entitled, "Gift: Its Ambivalence and Its Paradoxes. An Interdisciplinary Dialogue". It was attended by numerous presenters coming from all over Italy and representing various scientific areas.

Two years afterwards, we want to take up this meeting again and develop the debate over the question of gift. This time, we want to deepen the topic of the value of gift, linking it to the human experience of value and to the relevance of the theory of value in economy, ethics, anthropology and sociology.

From the 28-29 of May, 2010, the University Institute Sophia is organizing an INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR:

The Charismatic Principle in Economic and Civil Life: History, Theory and Good Practice

January 30 is the last day to send in paper proposals!

In May of 2010, the University Institute Sophia of Loppiano (Florence, Italy) will promote an international seminar titled: "The Charismatic Principle in Economic and Civil Life: History, Theory and Good Practice".

Among the objectives of the meeting is that of finding new paths in the dialogue between the institutional and charismatic dimension applied to the economic and social contexts. The basic consideration is that in the history of economy, of society and of religion, the charismatic dimension is often left in the shadows. To understand social and economic life inside and out, what is proposed is to analyze it not only in its institutional profile, but to also put into evidence the charismatic dynamics.
