Twenty years of EoC, Brazil, May 25-29, 2011...
Twenty years of the EoC in Brazil was an important anniversary, not just for evaluating the past, but mostly in looking towards the future, the next twenty years, from 2011 to 2031. On this page, we want to give you an account of the two important events that took place on this occasion:
The International EoC Assembly "Protagonists today of a new economy", from May 25-28, 2011 - Mariapolis Ginetta (Vargem Grande Paulista), and the concluding even on May 29, 2011 - Hall of the Latin America Memorial (Sao Paulo) - "The Prophecy makes history. Twenty years of the Economy of Communion".

La nostra speranza verso il 2031

Siamo tornati a San Paolo dove Chiara ebbe la scintilla ispiratrice, per lasciarci convertire da questi luoghi. Nella storia dei popoli, soprattutto nella storia dell’azione dello spirito nel mondo, il luoghi sono importanti, la geografia ha lo stesso peso della storia. Quindi chi vuole conoscere in profondità il carisma di san Francesco deve andare prima o poi ad Assisi; chi vuole incontrare e capire Martin Luther King deve andare tra gli afro-americani, così chi vuole conoscere e capire l’EdC prima o poi nella sua vita deve venire a San Paolo. Qui dove da uno sguardo di una donna su questa città nacque 20 anni fa l’EdC, che oggi è una rete che abbraccia sempre più il mondo intero.
La conoscenza e l’interpretazione degli epocali cambiamenti avvenuti alla fine del secolo appena concluso e proseguiti poi con crescente accelerazione, impegnano e impegneranno gli studiosi del sociale per parecchio tempo. E’ un lavoro né facile e neanche attraente, eppure non può essere procrastinato perché la posta in gioco è molto alta: individuare nella marea di dati a disposizione, nell’enorme quantità di studi e ricerche sociologiche il nocciolo della questione, quello che davvero incide sulla qualità di vita dell’umanità e sulla salvaguardia della sua dignità. Obiettivo, questo, improbo da raggiungere.
Contemplando dall'aereo, in attesa di atterrare, il tappeto di favelas che circondava la selva di grattacieli di San Paolo, Chiara nel maggio del 1991 aveva sentito di dover chiedere a Dio, sicura della potenza della sua preghiera, una terza via, che sulle macerie del marxismo e sulle ingiustizie della economia di mercato senza regole del presente consumismo, potesse offrire un futuro sostenibile all'umanità del terzo millennio.

dell’uomo. Senza i carismi dei Fondatori di Ordini e Congregazioni tra Seicento e Novecento, solo per fare un esempio, la storia degli stati europei sarebbe stata ben diversa; gli ospedali e l’assistenza sanitaria, la scuola e l’istruzione, la “cura del disagio”, sono stati senz’altro frutto di politiche pubbliche e di “istituzioni”, ma certamente i carismi, hanno fatto da apristrada, da innovatori in questi terreni di frontiera dell’umano.
Negli ultimi quattro anni ho avuto la possibilità di seguire da vicino le attività e i progetti realizzati con gli utili messi in comunione dalle imprese EdC a favore delle persone in necessità. In questo panel su “povertà e sviluppo” vorrei darvi, quindi, uno sguardo “dall'interno” su qual'è stata l'esperienza dell'EdC in questo ambito negli ultimi anni e su quali sono, a mio avviso, le sfide che abbiamo davanti per i prossimi anni.
Recently, I was at a conference in Dublin on the impact of climate change. A woman from some islands in the South Pacific gave a powerful account of how climate change is affecting their community. Already, one of the main islands has been split in two by rising sea levels and the communities have been forced to move to another bigger island to avoid the sea. Nobody wants to move – and no-one can understand what is happening to their islands, which it is estimated will no longer exist within a decade.
It was a little bit of a challenge to think of how it would be possible for everyone to participate in the EoC Assembly and the final convention of the 20th anniversary meeting through live streaming. We didn't begin with the best conditions. Nothing similar had ever been done at Mariapolis Ginetta, and at the Latin American Memorial everything had to be built from the ground up, as there was no Internet access already available, but we got geared up and began to run trial connections.
