In this section, we have gathered a few episodes from the weekly series called "Economic Thought in Caritas in Veritate", on air since September 2009, on Tele Ticino, as part of the transmission "Caritas Insieme" (Charity Together). In this series, various personalities in local and international culture, help viewers understand the vastness and impact of Benedict XVI´s Caritas in Veritate on people´s daily lifes. This series wants to particularly highlight the encyclical´s economic thought and the novalty that the magisterial approach brings to the very structure of global and national economic conceptions.

Luigino Bruni: Una enciclica scritta col sangue dei martiri

LXVII puntata della rubrica settimanale "Il pensiero economico in Caritas in Veritate", in onda il 1 e 2 gennaio 2011 su Tele Ticino all'interno della trasmissione "Caritas Insieme". In questa puntata Luigino Bruni afferma che una enciclica porta frutti quando è scritta con il sangue dei martiri, quando cioè da voce ad un popolo che ogni giorno, nella fabbriche, nelle imprese, nelle famiglie lotta e vive per i valori che l'enciclica enuncia. Altrimenti resta un "paper" che potrà essere custodito nelle biblioteche ma che difficilmente inciderà realmente nella società.

Luigino Bruni: Ecology in the encyclical

The 51st episode of the weekly series "The economic thought in Caritas in Veritate", aired on September 4 and 5, 2010, on Tele Ticino as part of "Caritas Insieme" (Caritas Together). In this episode, Luigino Bruni defines the Encyclical's thought on ecology as "guardianship ecology". He makes reference to the passage of Genesis when God entrusts the earth to man and woman and, then later, when Cain asks if he is his brother's keeper. They are not two separate tasks: taking care of the earth is inevitably linked with taking care of the other.

Luca Crivelli: Mercato e fraternità

XLIII puntata della rubrica settimanale "Il pensiero economico in Caritas in Veritate", in onda il 10 e 11 luglio 2010 su Tele Ticino all'interno della trasmissione "Caritas Insieme". In questa puntata Luca Crivelli ci spiega che questa enciclica sgombra il campo definitivamente rispetto alla concezione duale "efficienza - equità, mercato-redistribuzione": la Caritas in Veritate ci dice invece che l'uomo è al centro di ogni attività umana compresa quella economica, per cui anche il mercato può diventare un luogo di fraternità.

Luigino Bruni: Una finanza a misura d'uomo

XLII puntata della rubrica settimanale "Il pensiero economico in Caritas in Veritate", in onda il 3 e 4 luglio 2010 su Tele Ticino all'interno della trasmissione "Caritas Insieme". In questa puntata Luigino Bruni sottolinea come la finanza non sia un luogo magico lontano dalla vita, ma che anzi è la vita economica, con le sue scelte a determinarla: per cui se vogliamo che cambi la finanza, occorre che cambino gli stili di vita e le relazioni economiche fra le persone. Dobbiamo ri-appropriarci della finanza perchè anch'essa è un pezzo di vita. Se pensiamo alla finanza come un luogo non umano, basta vedere cosa è successo con questa crisi, poi lo diventa veramente: dobbiamo popolare la finanza di persone, di ideali, di passioni, solo così la possiamo salvare.

Stefano Zamagni: Economia, mercato e bene comune

XXXIX puntata della rubrica settimanale "Il pensiero economico in Caritas in Veritate", in onda il 12 e 13 giugno 2010 su Tele Ticino all'interno della trasmissione "Caritas Insieme". In questa puntata Stefano Zamagni sottolinea un elemento di novità assoluto fra questa enciclica e quelle che l'hanno preceduta: le precedenti encicliche consideravano mercato di tipo capitalistico come un dato di natura immodificabile, e cercavano di migliorarlo, questa enciclica invece dice: attenzione a non confondere l'economia di mercato con il sistema capitalistico: il mercato infatti nasce ben prima del sistema capitalistico, nel 1300. L'economia di mercato è un modo di organizzare la sfera economica: il sistema capitalistico è un modo per organizzare l'intera società, sono due cose ben diverse.

Luca Crivelli: Economy, Business and Vocaion

The XXXVI Episode of the weekly series, "Economic Thought in Caritas in Veritate", aired on May 22 and 23, 2010, on Tele Ticino, as part of the "Caritas Together" transmission. In this episode, Luca Crivelli explains the meaning of the word "vocation" as related to entrepreneur, in Caritas in Veritate.

In the encyclical, the most radical vocation is that of love. Can this vocation be united with business? The true entrepreneur is not intrinsically and mainly moved by profit, but by the project that he is carrying out, and this is his main objective. So then, being an entrepreneur can also be a vocation and, as the encyclical affirms, the entrepreneur can become a saint through his entrepreneurial activity.

In the XXXV episode of the weekly television series, "Economic Thought in Caritas in Veritate", aired on May 15-16, 2010 on Tele Ticino as part of the "Caritas Insieme" transmission. In this episode, Luigino Bruni explains come the tragic events of September 11, 2001, distracted world public opinion from the topic of globalization and its effects on financial speculation. Until then, the world had been very attentive to this topic, and the attack and all that followed has made us lose precious time. Years later, the current crisis is making us realize how much things have gone ahead, without the rules that would have been necessary. The effects are clear for all to see.

In this episode, Luca Crivelli explains why the contractual relationships in the working environment are more complicated that than those between seller and consumer, for example. We´ll see why the "bonus trap" has completely saturated reciprocity and gratuitousness at the foundation of work relationships.

In this new segment, various experts in the cultural, local and international spheres help viewers understand the vastness and the impact on concrete life of Benedict XVI´s new encyclical, Caritas in Veritate.

The first segment will feature Stefano Zamagni, renowned economist and close collaborator for the draft of the papel document. Professor Zamagni will address various themes, like economy and gratuitousness, the common good and subsidiarity, a redefinition of welfare and the third sector.

Stefano Zamagni: Economy and Technological Progress

Segment of the weekly show"Il pensiero economico in Caritas in Veritate", from the transmission, "Caritas Together", aired on September 19 and 20 of 2009 on Tele Ticino.

In this segment, Stefano Zamagni describes how the topic of technological progress is seen in Caritas in Veritate: the pope invites us to not fall into the so-called technological myth that affirms that all that is technologically possible is licit. If followed, this is a myth whose consequences could be the domination of science over man, taking away spaces of liberty.
